FAQ

  • Do you take insurance?
Yes, we are in-network with Tricare (West Region). Always check with your provider to make sure that services will be covered. We will also run your insurance to make sure we get approval and will let you know if it is not authorized. At this time, we are considered out-of-network with all other insurances but can provide you with a Superbill, which is a breakdown of CPT codes and costs. You can submit this to your insurance and see if they will cover the services in part or full. As every insurance plan is different, you will need to confirm reimbursements directly with them. Costs are required upfront and we cannot guarantee that you will be reimbursed if a Superbill is provided. You can find more information about out-of-network insurances and Superbills: https://blog.zencare.co/guide-to-out-of-network-benefits/ If you do not have Tricare, self-pay rates will apply.
  • How much does an evaluation cost?
A free 15 minute phone consultation is provided to every prospective client. We will discuss primary concerns, leave additional time for any questions you may have, and go over the evaluation process. If you feel that we will be a good fit and you would like to proceed with the evaluation, we will then schedule an intake. The first payment of $250.00 is due at the time of intake, which is held via phone. Once the intake is completed, we will schedule the in-person testing appointment. The remaining balance is due at time of testing. Payment plans are available and can be discussed during the consultation or intake. The final cost depends on the referral question but below you can find the breakdown for each type of evaluation. These are estimates and the total will be discussed after the intake is completed. Psychological Evaluation: $1,500 to $2,500. This includes a cognitive measure along with psychological, clinical, and personality measures. Neuropsychological Evaluation: $2,750 to $3,500. This includes cognitive and executive functioning measures as well as mood/clinical and psychological measures as needed. This is typically the cost of an ADHD and/or ASD evaluation. Psychoeducational Evaluation: $4,500 to $5,500. This includes cognitive, executive functioning, clinical, and academic measures. A psychoeducational evaluation, including Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE's), are typically the most extensive type of evaluation.
  • What is the evaluation process like?
    1. Free 15 minute consultation: We will first start with a free 15 minute phone consultation to discuss the referral question(s), what to expect, and any additional questions you may have. 2. Fill out paper work electronically: If you choose to proceed with Heritage Psychology, we will send you digital forms to complete which include pre-authorization insurance forms (if applicable), psychosocial history form (adult or child), informed consents, Notice of Privacy Practices, and credit card authorization forms. 3. Intake: An intake will be scheduled but the electronic forms must be completed 48 hours prior to the intake appointment. If they are not completed, Heritage Psychology will need to reschedule the appointment, as it is vital to review this information prior. The intake takes about one hour and is held via phone. 4. The Testing Appointment: Once the intake is completed, we will schedule a testing appointment which is held in person at our office located at 2456 Broadway, San Diego, CA 92102. This appointment usually lasts 4-6 hours, depending on the referral question. For smaller children, it may be necessary to break up the testing sessions. During this appointment, testing will consist of self-report questionnaires, objective testing, and parent questionnaires (if applicable) that are targeted to answer the referral question. 5. Feedback: The feedback generally takes place 2-3 weeks after testing is complete and is held via our telehealth platform. This takes about one hour. During this appointment, Dr. Franz thoroughly reviews the testing results with the client and/or parent. For minors, only the parent(s) needs to be available unless your child is older and you would like for them to be a part of the feedback. We will then discuss what the results mean and the diagnosis, if there is one. 6. Report: After the feedback, it takes 2-3 weeks to receive a comprehensive report. This report includes information gathered from the adult/child history forms, intake interview, testing observations, testing results, summary, diagnostic formulation, recommendations, and interventions.
  • What can I expect on the day of testing?
Please make sure you or your child get plenty of sleep the night before and a substantial breakfast the day of...It is important that you are well rested. Please make sure to bring water and a lunch on the day of testing. The testing takes 4-6 hours to complete depending on the referral question. If you believe you or your child may need more than one session, please discuss this with Dr. Franz during the intake. The pricing does not change, as long as the total time for testing is within the estimated timeframe. Testing consists of cognitive and executive functioning tasks for most assessments, whether it is a neuropsychological, psychological, or psychoeducational referral. Depending on the primary concern, it will also include self-report measures, parent/teacher measures, timed tests, memory tests, mood/clinical questionnaires, and math, spelling, or writing tests. Plenty of breaks will be offered throughout the day. Water and snacks will be provided but please bring any additional snacks and food you may want for yourself. A 30-minute lunch break will be provided as well for you to enjoy your lunch in the office building or at a local eatery. Parents: If you believe your child will not try to leave the premises, you are welcome to return at the provided estimated end time. Additionally, if you have younger siblings that will be with you on the testing day, the waiting room may not be the most optimal place to wait, as there are other therapy offices located on the same floor. There are many coffee shops, restaurants, and parks within the area that you can visit. If your child is a flight risk, we require that you stay within the building and are welcome to utilize our waiting room.
